What is the biggest margin of victory in an NBA Final game?
On the verge of being humiliatingly swept in the NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics, the Dallas Mavericks roared back to a 122-84 Game 4 win. The emphatic win sees their chances stay alive for the moment at least as the series moves back to Boston for Game 5.
The 38 point margin is now the third-biggest margin of victory in NBA Finals History, falling just short of the record of 42 points held by the 1998 Chicago Bulls. In that Game, the Utah Jazz were simply overwhelmed as the Bulls completed their second franchise three-peat.
One point ahead of the Mavs on the all-time list are the 2008 Celtics who beat the Lakers by 39 points.
Luka Doncic had been roundly criticised after Game 3 and came roaring back with a mind-blowing 29 points in Game 4. Kyrie Irving followed close behind with 21 points and both Tim Hardaway Jr and Dante Exum posted double figures on 15 and 10 points respectively.
The Celtics, on the other hand, were oddly mute, with their highest scorer coming in the form of Jayson Tatum who could only muster 15 points. Sam Hauser followed with 14 and Payton Pritchard put up a late 11. Jrue Holiday and Jaylen Brown rounded out the players with double digits with 10 points each.
