Though we’ve seen some big ones, nothing quite compares to when the NBA’s two biggest franchises went toe-to-toe in the NBA Finals a little more than a decade ago. Let’s take a look at how that went down.

Celtics epic effort downed the Lakers in historic comeback

It was 2008 and basketball fans couldn’t have asked for a better match. The perennial dynasties of the NBA were facing off in the NBA Finals. The rivalry that gave us Magic and Bird was about to tip off once again and the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers delivered.

With standing at 2-1 in the Boston Celtics’ favor, the Los Angeles Lakers led by the late and legendary Kobe Bryant would go on to sink almost 65% of their field goals on the way to taking a 45-21 lead in the second quarter of Game 4. It was a statement and apparently the Celtics didn’t like it.

In quick fashion Boston had cut the Lakers lead to 18 points by the time halftime rolled around and in the third, they went to work. By the end of the quarter they had outscored the Lakers 31-15. By the time the clock hit 10:13 the Celtics had tied the game at 73, before taking the lead for the first time at 84-83 with 4:07 to go. In the end, the Celtics won 97-91 an went on to take 3-1 lead, eventually winning in six games. Legendary.
