What did Luka Doncic say about Anthony Edwards after Game One win?
Luka Doncic put up a game-leading 33 points in Game One of the Western Conference Finals as the Dallas Mavericks came from behind to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Mavs trailed going into the fourth quarter but were able to turn it around to take a 1-0 series lead. Doncic’s teammate Kyrie Irving also scored 30 points and the Slovenian paid tribute to him in the post-match press conference.
Doncic said of Irving: “He’s amazing. He got us going, without him we would’ve probably been down 20 at halftime. He had us going, so I had to help him out in the second half a little bit.”
The Mavs were able to keep Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards relatively quiet on the night, something that very few teams have managed this year.
What did Luka Doncic say about Anthony Edwards?
Going into the Western Conference Finals the meeting between the Mavs and the Timberwolves was billed as a clash between Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards. The two players are often ranked among the most impressive young guards in the league, both able to win games single-handedly for their teams.
Irving was given the job of guarding Edwards on Wednesday and he did well, holding the 22-year-old to just 19 points. Speaking after the match Doncic was full of praise for Edwards and highlighted the need to keep him quiet.
“He’s an amazing player, you have to put multiple bodies on him. If he’s going one-on-one it’s tough to stop him. He’s an amazing player so I think we did a good job on him,” Doncic said. “But he’s going to come back stronger so we’ve gotta be ready for everything because he’s an unbelievable player.”
Edwards’ talents proved decisive in the Timberwolves’ semi-final win over the Denver Nuggets, twice putting up 40 points in the seven-Game series. He was named an NBA All-Star for the second time this year and is looking to inspire the Timberwolves to the first Conference title in franchise History.
