What did Cowboys’ Micah Parsons say about potentially missing significant time?
The Dallas Cowboys’ win over the New York Giants on Thursday night was dampened by injuries to two of their best defensive players. On top of all the defensive issues and injuries they already had, Dallas saw both edge rusher Micah Parsons and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence leave the Game with injuries.
While Lawrence’s injury to his foot will take a long time to recover from (anywhere from four to eight weeks) and he looks to be put on Injured Reserve, Parsons’ injury will require a bit less time. Still, even one Game without the All-Pro is a huge loss for the Cowboys, who just got their first win after two straight home losses.
Parsons listed as week-to-week
Parsons was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and could potentially miss anywhere from two to four weeks. He’s currently listed as week-to-week.
As the Cowboys had a Thursday game last week, Parsons is hopeful he can still play on Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers with the extra days allowing more recovery time. But the reality is that it’s unlikely, which is a tough pill for Parsons to swallow.
Since his rookie season in 2021, Parsons has only ever missed one game (that same year) due to the COVID protocol. He’s never missed a game due to injury before, but now it’s a real possibility that he is trying to come to terms with.
“It’s just frustrating, for real,” said Parsons. “You put a lot of energy into getting ready and being there for the team, so being out, this hurts me because I’m letting people down. I’m just letting people down. I figured myself invincible for a while. It’s humbling. It’s part of the test that I was talking about. It’s faith. Gotta come back strong.”
Parsons said his goal is to “get back as fast as possible”. Week 7 is the Cowboys’ bye week and Parsons is hoping to be ready before that time comes. If he is out, the Cowboys will have a challenging task in replacing him (and Lawrence).
“It’s time to man up,” said Parsons of his teammates. “We talk about next man up mentality? It’s time.”
