Tracy McGrady is one of the most talented players of his generation.

Although he was never able to personally lead his teams to huge amounts of playoff success, on an individual level, he was extremely respected by all his peers for being a standout player.

Because of how good he was, McGrady is uniquely qualified to speak on the greatness of today’s players.

This week, McGrady caused a bit of controversy when he argued that Stephen Curry wasn’t an all-time great, top-10 NBA player.

“He hasn’t cracked my top 10 yet,” McGrady argued.

“He just hasn’t. I think Steph has had a phenomenal career, Obviously, four championships, two league MVPs, he has a Finals MVP. But if you go back and look at his career, when Draymond is out of the lineup for the season. If you look at Klay Thompson, who missed that season.”

McGrady didn’t stop there, though

“To me, if one of your guys is missing and you can’t make the playoffs, I can’t put you in [my] top 5 or top 10,” he continued.

“I just can’t. Greatness to me is when one of your guys is out, you still have to elevate your team at least to the Playoffs. They don’t even make the Playoffs when Klay or Dray are out of the lineup. They haven’t even won a Play-In game at all. Top five? No chance.”

Reactions to McGrady’s sentiments were mixed.

Either way, Curry isn’t done playing yet. And if he comes back and wins a fifth chip at some point before he retires, nobody will be able to argue his presence in the top 10 — not even McGrady.
