Celtic will get a share of UEFA’s Club Benefits Programme this summer as a direct result of player participation in the EURO 2024 tournament.

Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor have all been named in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the trip to Germany.

UEFA have set aside a pool of €140m for payouts to clubs who have players taking part, up 7.7% from a similar scheme in 2020. [UEFA]

That means that for every day Celtic’s four Scottish players will be training and playing at the tournament, a little bit of money will be heading the Bhoys’ way.

There are no astronomical sums here but, like when Bhoys stars feature at the World Cup, it’s a tidy little bonus for the club – especially in the context of the low prize money on offer in Scottish Football.

How much Celtic will earn from UEFA’s EURO 2024 scheme

Based on the 7.7% increase from 2020, each player at the tournament will earn around €9,400 for every day they are involved. That window runs from ten days prior to their country’s first match until the day after they are knocked out or win the comPetition.

In the example of Scotland only featuring in the group stage, each of their Celtic representatives will earn €188,000 over 20 days in Germany.

Multiplied by four that works out at €752,000 in total being paid to the Bhoys, which is around £634,000 at today’s exchange rate. If Scotland make it out of their group then, of course, even more money will be added to the final total.

Many Celtic fans won’t need an added reason to cheer on McGregor and the rest of his compatriots but if you’re looking for one, there it is!

What we want to see most is these players showing their worth at the elite level and gaining experience in such high-stakes fixtures.

It only helps them in their quest to learn, improve and progress as players at the Bhoys – especially taking into consideration a step up to Champions League Football again next term.
