Texas Star Quinn Ewers Makes Surprising Arch Manning Comment
Texas star Quinn Ewers was expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft for much of last season.
Most believed that he would go pro and leave a starting quarterback vacancy with the Longhorns that would eventually go to Arch Manning.
When Ewers opted to return to Texas, there was talk that Manning might opt to transfer. It got so serious, in fact, that a two-school short list for landing spots emerged.
Eventually Manning decide to remain with the Longhorns.
This week, Ewers spoke out about Manning and the competition between the two of them for Texas’ starting quarterback spot.
“I think that he gains a lot,” Ewers said of Manning remaining in Texas and competing for the QB spot.
“Not being from the state and coming in is obviously a little different. I think he’s got more time to grow his pride and love for the university. Obviously he loves the university and loves the Longhorns, but kind of being able to sit back and watch, I think that’s different than playing.”
Ewers didn’t stop there, though.
So him seeing what’s going on from inside but also outside, I think he can get a lot of intel from that. And obviously another year to learn the offense and just get more comfortable within the smaller details. It’s the best situation for him…
“We’re really intense comPetitors, and we all want the same outcome. But at the end of the day, I think we’re better humans, and I think we’re better people. I think that we really enjoy each other’s company in that quarterback room. During the season, we do quarterback dinners every Tuesday and we go have dinner together after every Tuesday meeting. I’ve never been in a closer room.”
Texas has the opportunity to be very good heading into the 2024 college football season.
There is an argument to be made that the path to a National Championship has actually never been more wide open. With both Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh gone – two of the scariest programs in the sport suddenly look less intimidating.
Will Texas be able to take advantage? Time will tell.
