Bears Scout Another QB In NFL Draft Amid Caleb Williams’ Poor Pro Day Showing

The Chicago Bears have officially decided to explore all their options following Caleb Williams’ poor Pro Day showing last week.

Williams’ Pro Day, which has been described as ‘underwhelming’ by multiple parties, is just the latest red flag to arise involving the USC quarterback who at one point was presumed to be the consensus top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Between the worrying issues surrounding Williams’ bad attitude and bizarre sense of entitlement, the Trojans poor performance last season relative to expectations, and now his unimpressive Pro Day, the Bears have been forced to set up contingency plans.

A few days ago, the front office began scouting an alternative option at quarterback.

According to Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, Chicago decided to bring a massive number of people to Michigan star J.J. McCarthy’s Pro Day.

The list includes: head coach Matt Eberflus, GM Ryan Poles, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, quarterback coach Kerry Joseph and wide receiver coach Chris Beatty. That is the exact group that came in to watch Williams, too.

Why would the Bears need such a massive group to observe McCarthy if the Williams pick was as etched in stone as people have pretended it is?

The reality of the situation is simple: Chicago isn’t fully sold on Williams because of his many, many red flags. And understandably so.

While the media keeps trying to wish Williams as the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft into existence, the truth of the matter is far more complicated.

There is a very real scenario that sees the Bears trade away the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for more capital and then select a quarterback, like McCarthy, further down the board.
