USC’s Caleb Williams Starting To Drop On NFL Draft Boards

USC’s Caleb Williams seemed to suggest at one point that he didn’t want to go first overall to a team like the Chicago Bears.

Well, as it turns out – he may get his wish.

The star Trojans quarterback, who appears to be one of the bigger young prima donnas to enter the NFL in some time, seems to be playing himself out of the top spot in this year’s draft.

As if his choke jobs at USC against quality competition weren’t enough, and ignoring the time sorority girls that exposed his bizarre feet thing, Williams also seems to have a weirdly entitled attitude.

In a week of Football news ranging from Brittany Mahomes partying hard amid her separation from Patrick Mahomes to Antonio Brown sharing intimate photos of Gisele Bundchen to Josh Allen’s ex outing the truth about their breakup, Williams has somehow swooped in and stolen the headlines away with his latest drama.

This week, according to CBS Sports, Williams became “first combine invitee to attend the event after declining the medical exams, which are typically considered to be one of the most essential elements of the combine.”

This isn’t Williams’ first red flag.

According to Kalyn Kahler of The Athletic, Williams and his family were also interested at one point in circumventing league and collective bargaining rules to obtain an ownership stake in whatever NFL team he would land with.

This desire fits a theme of Williams wanting the old rules not to apply to him anymore.

“The funky thing about the NFL draft process is, he’d almost be better off not being drafted than being drafted first. The system is completely backwards,” Williams’ father told Sam Schube of GQ at one point.

“The way the system is constructed, you go to the worst possible situation. The worst possible team, the worst organization in the league — because of their desire for parity — gets the first pick. So it’s the gift and the curse.”

It appears as though NFL teams are growing weary of Williams’ schtick. At one point, he was the consensus top overall pick. That is no longer the case.

“It does not feel like it’s a consensus that Caleb Williams is the No. 1 overall pick,” Ian Rapoport said this week on NFL Network.

ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky made the case this week that Jayden Daniels out of LSU should actually be the top pick in this year’s draft.

“Jayden Daniels should be the guy,” Orlovsky stated. “If I were the Chicago Bears right now, I would take Jayden Daniels out of LSU.”

He then went so far as to say that Daniels is ‘better’ than his USC counterpart.

“Candidly, I think when it comes to which guy has the best Game, none of these guys compare to Jayden Daniels against Florida,” Orlovsky explained. “Caleb Williams is fantastic, I just think Jayden Daniels is better.”

The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25. Where will Williams land when everything is said and done? Time will tell.
