Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has seemed to ease fears about potential injury issues within the squad as they prepare for Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock.

While defensive duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty were absent from training, Rodgers indicated that these were precautionary measures following a demanding schedule.

Speaking ahead of the tip to Ayrshire on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers did confirm that there were a few niggles and knocks in his squad, but didn’t seem overly concerned. [Celtic TV]

“Yeah, well hopefully all being well. A couple of little knocks and minor things that the medical team are working with, but hopefully, the same squad. Obviously, we’re in a really good place physically and mentally. We’ve got another day to go, so hopefully all being well.”

When asked about CCV and Trusty missing from training on Friday, Rodgers gave a little more detail and clarified:

“You’re absolutely right, they weren’t training, but it was more precautionary really, just giving them that extra little bit. We had two very tough physical Games in four days, so they’re just doing some light work inside, and then we’ll see how they are for tomorrow.”

This update suggests that Celtic’s squad is largely intact, with players undergoing lighter workloads to aid recovery ahead of the upcoming fixture. Fans can be cautiously optimistic that the team will be at near full strength for their trip to Rugby Park.

Naturally, there might be a few changes. Luke McCowan may get the nod in midfield, just like Liam Scales might get a start at the back.

There’s plenty of quality players ready to step into the starting eleven, so a minor knock here and there will allow Rodgers to make the changes required without seeing an obvious drop off in quality.
