Mary Cosby has a deep mother’s love for her son and only child, Robert Cosby Jr. Ever since the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City debuted in 2020, viewers have occasionally seen appearances from Robert Jr., especially after Mary revealed he got married during the season 4 premiere.

“Everyone’s telling me it’s his wife,” Mary said in a confessional during the September 2023 episode. “So, we’re gonna have to figure that one out.”

The reality star’s son confirmed the news, telling her, “I mean, kind of yeah. Like I went to the courthouse.”

Mary, who left the show during season 3, confirmed their union during her grand return the following season. She gave fans an update on her son’s marriage during a January 2024 interview with BravoTV. The reality star said that although her son lived with her while he got married, she had no clue that he tied the knot.

“She lived at her house, with her parents,” Mary said, later revealing that Alexiana moved into the Cosby residence after Mary learned of their marriage.

During the Bravolebrity’s interview with the network, she didn’t have a problem admitting she didn’t give Robert Jr. her blessing to marry Alexiana.

“[Robert Jr.] told me he wanted to get married and I said, ‘No, he doesn’t. You don’t even understand what comes with that. That’s like a Lifestyle. Like, you have to be the provider’” Mary recalled.

The family matriarch later added, “And I was like, ‘She’s not your wife. Like, I can tell you – listen to your mom. She is not the woman you want to marry,’” she said. “He did not hear anything I said. He just went and got married.”

Robert Jr. was arrested for a DUI in March 2022, according to court documents obtained by In Touch. He claimed to not have any alcohol in his system, but admitted to “recently” taking oxycontin, Xanax, and smoking marijuana.

Robert Jr. was charged with driving under the iNFLuence of alcohol, improper right turn, driving on suspension alcohol related, and failure to operate within a single lane. After pleading not guilty to all the charges, three were dropped. However, Robert Jr. was charged with a DUI.

In February 2023, the Bravo kid was ordered to pay a $1,610 fine and face a 12-month probation.

In the midst of his legal drama, Starcasm shared photos of Robert Jr. and Alexiana’s since-deleted Instagram pages, which were filled with photos of them holding or taking narcotics. Robert Jr. entered rehab in July 2024 and Mary told fans he was doing “good” in recovery that October.

“I had to get used to her, but now I love her,” Mary admitted during the January 2024 Bravo clip. “And she loves me back. So, it works.”

That said, Mary shared that she could easily not see Alexiana in their home due to the layout of their estate.

“If I don’t, like, go out of my way, I will never see her,” Mary said in the confessional. “And likewise. Because their kitchen, we have a full kitchen in our basement, and that’s the kitchen she cooks out of. She, you know, doesn’t clean dishes or anything, but she just cooks and makes a mess and then, you know, expects someone else to clean it up. But it’s that generation. I get it.”

Mary’s point of view quickly changed after Robert and Alexiana’s substance abuse made headlines. Ahead of the RHOSLC season 5 premiere in October 2024, Mary revealed that they were “unfortunately” still together.

“I just think that they’re toxic. They create toxicity when they’re together and it’s not a good mix,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “[And] I feel like the more I put into that and the more I push it, the more he’s gonna gravitate to her so I know to just back off and just let him figure it out himself and he’s figuring it out. He sees it.”
