Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple have gone the extra mile to acknowledge their deep liking toward one another on The Golden Bachelorette. Their bond has deepened throughout the early stages of the season, and even acted “like a couple” in front of the other contestants during an upcoming group date.

Joan, 61, hosted her final group date of the season in a teaser for the Wednesday, October 16, episode shared by ABC via Instagram. While everybody took turns trying to strike out at the bowling alley, Chock, 61, utilized their downtime to sit and chat with Joan – away from the other men.

“I’m very much just looking forward to just having some time with Joan,” Chock said in a confessional interview.

The scene cut back to the group date where Chock sat next to Joan on their own private bench of chairs as his arm was wrapped around her. Chock cheekily whispered in Joan’s ear, “Can I just take you home?”

Although the insurance executive and Joan were in their own bubble, the other contestants noticed their flirty nature from feet away.

“As we’re bowling, it is clear that Chock positioned himself well and was sitting right next to her,” Guy Gansert said in a confessional.

In his own confessional, Jonathan Rone claimed the love fest was in their face and Chock and Joan were “together like a couple.”

“I don’t care what they’re thinking they’re doing,” Chock said in a separate confessional, filmed the night of the group date. “I’m just worried about Joan and myself.”

Chock is diving head first into his journey with Joan after experiencing a tragic loss during episode 4 when he learned that his mother, Jill Cobb, died after a battle with stage 4 cancer.

“We knew it was coming but it never makes it any easier,” he said during the episode, later admitting that he “knew the potential but [he] just didn’t know it was going to happen this quick.”

Chock, who enjoyed a lovely one-on-one date with Joan at Disneyland, informed her about the death of his mother and shared that he had to leave to be there for his family.

“I need some help. I do think I need to go there and check on her husband, George, and also check on [her caregiver] Crystal,” Chock told Joann. “I need you to support me on that.”

The Kansas native’s exit was brief as he returned to the mansion in time for the rose ceremony and received another boutonniere from Joan.

Chock has experienced great loss during and before his time on The Golden Bachelorette. Like Joan, Chock lost a partner when his late fiancée, Katherine “Kathy” Elizabeth White Goree, died from brain cancer in January 2022. Doctors discovered tumors on her brain after getting a CAT scan following a seizure.

“She lived for five months, four days. I’ve been through some things in my life, but I never had anyone die in my arms. It was heartbreaking,” Chock recalled to Joan during their one-on-one dinner date during episode 2. “It was the only time I really showed vulnerability, where I broke down. And I started crying and you go, ‘Why couldn’t it be me? Why is this happening to you?’”
