Celtic have reportedly made significant strides in addressing their goalkeeper situation, with a bid accepted for Fenerbahce's Dominik Livakovic. According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, the Premiership champions have secured an agreement for the Croatian international, potentially filling a crucial gap left by Joe Hart's retirement after the Scottish Cup Final victory over Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers has been on the lookout for a top-class replacement, and it appears Livakovic could be the solution. Currently representing Croatia at Euro 2024, the 28-year-old's future at Fenerbahce seems set, with the player reportedly expressing his desire to leave following a successful title-winning campaign. Livakovic joined the Turkish club just a year ago from Dinamo Zagreb but could now be poised for Glasgow.

The reported fee for the goalkeeper stands at €9 million (£7.6 million), a substantial investment for Celtic. The move could be a shrewd piece of Business, especially considering the player's calibre and experience on the European stage.

Interestingly, Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce has already planned for Livakovic's departure, having lined up Juventus' Mattia Perin as his successor. A €3 million “agreement in principle” has been reportedly struck to bring the Italian to Turkey next season.

It's worth noting that while Fotomac broke the story, and to this point, media outlets in Scotland have picked up on the report but have not added anything to the suggestion a deal is close.

Confirmation from Celtic or reputable sources remains pending. If Celtic do manage the signing it would mark the club’s first of the summer, as Rodgers prepares his squad for the Champions League group stages and a defence of their domestic title.

Should this deal come to fruition, it would undoubtedly be a major coup for Celtic, securing a goalkeeper of Livakovic's pedigree. The move would not only address a critical need but also bolster the team's aspirations.
