The Celtic TV commentary booth was full of lively patter as the Hoops stormed past Aberdeen with a commanding 6-0 win in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Commentators Gerry McCulloch and Peter Grant couldn’t resist a playful jab at Rangers manager Philippe Clement, who recently expressed frustration over an offside call that went against his team.

The quip came as VAR reviewed Nicolas Kuhn’s goal for a possible offside involving Arne Engels in the buildup. After a suspenseful wait, VAR confirmed the goal, and Grant humorously commented, “A definite toenail,” sparking laughter from McCulloch on Celtic TV, who responded, Those toenails are important.”

Clement watched his side miss out on a goal in midweek when the linesman flagged for offside, and VAR stood with the call. The Belgian was aggrieved by the decision because there was only a “toenail” in it.

Celtic’s dominant display was highlighted by Cameron Carter-Vickers’ early opener and a stunning hat-trick from Daizen Maeda. Kuhn’s goal, after the VAR suspense, saw him curl a spectacular shot off the crossbar, adding to the delight of Celtic fans. Countryman Kyogo also got himself on the scoresheet.

The emphatic win not only secured a spot in the final but also ended Aberdeen’s unbeaten run. The second-best in the country were no match for Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.
