A new project at Martz Field Recreation Facility on Pye Lane in Wappinger is already underway, with construction recently starting on the Major Daniel M. Martz Vietnam War Memorial Plaza. Visitors to this popular Wappinger park's recreation area will now enter through a newly constructed memorial area that will be dedicated to a former Wappinger resident.

Town Supervisor, Joseph Cavaccini recently shared his sentiments about the new project:

I am excited that construction has begun at the brand new Major Daniel M. Martz Vietnam War Memorial Plaza at Martz Field! Visitors to this park will now enter through a beautiful circular patio with seating areas dedicated to the first Dutchess County resident to die in the Vietnam coNFLict.

Recently, the Town of Wappinger announced another recreation based project at Martz Field, this time on the Pickleball Court lighting. These upgrades to the recreational facility now allow players the chance to get in Games after dark, under the lights.

Spook Hill Park Rehabilitation Project

Additional recreation based work that has been underway for a number of years is the Spook Hill Park Rehabilitation Project.

The work on Spook Hill Park, dating back almost a decade, will head towards completion with the addition of the highly anticipated exercise and athletic equipment. Town Supervisor Cavaccini also shared:

Earlier this year, we committed funds to finally complete the 9 year old Spook Hill Park rehabilitation project. This park was never completed and neighbors have seen slow moving progress for years. This year, with the full funding to complete this park, we have moved forward with new swing sets at the playground, and now outdoor exercise and athletic equipment be installed there, as well as a jogging track, and new basketball court.

The Town of Wappinger is hopeful that the revitalization of these parks and facilities will help them to become vibrant centers of the community.
