Last month, John Lundstram provided Celtic fans with some amusement by including a red card tackle against the Hoops in his personal highlight reel.

The sending-off incident was pivotal in helping Celtic secure the league title, yet Lundstram bizarrely chose to feature it as a career highlight.

It appears the penchant for puzzling self-promotion isn’t limited to Lundstram alone.

Enter James Tavernier, the Ibrox captain and frequent runner-up, who has recently released his own highlight reel. Among the moments he chose to showcase is a tackle against Celtic during the Scottish Cup final—a match where his team succumbed to a late Adam Idah goal, resulting in yet another defeat for the blue half of Glasgow. The decision to highlight any aspect of that particular Game is, at the very least, questionable.

It’s noteworthy that Tavernier’s desperation to feature highlights from matches against Celtic led him to include a moment from a losing effort. Over the course of the season, Celtic dominated their Glasgow rivals, securing four victories and one draw in all comPetitions. Therefore, Tavernier had no victorious moments to include from encounters with Celtic, highlighting a broader issue within the Ibrox squad’s mentality.

This fixation on individual moments rather than collective success speaks volumes. While Rangers players, led by their captain, seem keen on showcasing personal feats, Celtic’s dominance as a team has been clear. The Hoops have consistently outperformed Rangers, not just in isolated instances but across entire campaigns.

The focus on personal highlights, even in the face of team failures, underscores a significant mentality difference between the two sides. Celtic’s players prioritise team success and have the results to back it up, whereas Rangers’ players appear more interested in personal accolades, even if they come from matches that ended in disappointment.
