Benjamin Siegrist sends telling message about his Celtic future

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be keen to offload some fringe players this summer to make way for new additions at Parkhead.

Last season, there was an element of frustration that came to the fore amid a feeling that his squad was bloated across the board, something he looked to alter at the turn of the year.

David Turnbull, Yosuke Ideguchi and a host of departing loanees helped to reduce squad size; however, Benjamin Siegrist remained at the club despite speculation he could be set to move on.

The Swiss goalkeeper joined two years ago from Dundee United, though he has only gone on to feature twice for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions, per Transfermarkt.

Nevertheless, he now appears to have shed light on his potential fate this summer in an intriguing interview.

Benjamin Siegrist hints he could leave Celtic soon

Speaking to Blick, Siegrist has indicated he could be set to leave Celtic this summer and has also laid out plans to lay down foundations in Australia once he moves closer to Football retirement.

He stated: “After my last day at work, I’ll leave as soon as possible. And I’ll never come back here (to Celtic). No. I’m going to retire there (Australia). But not yet. Britt has already indicated that she could do her podcast from Europe (his fiance). We’re excited.”

Truthfully, it hasn’t really worked for Siegrist at Celtic. Despite being a talented stopper, he has barely kicked a ball in anger for the club and both parties having a clean break would be a sensible decision.

The Bhoys are set to introduce new blood in the goalkeeping position, and if he were to leave Parkhead, could that pave the way for two new stoppers to come in this summer?

Either way, there doesn’t seem to be much chance of seeing Siegrist run out at Parkhead in the near future, so hopefully, he can find a suitable destination and recoup the Hoops some form of transfer fee.

It feels like there is a calm before the storm in the market, and it may be that outgoings are needed to pave the way for arrivals.
