Her social media may be awash with photos of her easy dimpled smile, but actor Hania Aamir has also unabashedly used her online platform to speak up for mental Health. So naturally, when Indian actor and iNFLuencer Dolly Singh shared a post on combating body shaming, Hania felt compelled to reshare the message on her own IG story.

After facing years of disparaging comments surrounding her body shape, Dolly composed a relatable post about her struggles with weight-gain, and ended with a powerful message about how she has risen above unsolicited judgement.

Like most people, my weight fluctuates too,” began Dolly. “Being on the naturally skinny side of the spectrum, I tend to lose weight easily and it’s hard to put it back on.”

Dolly added that she no longer worries about what anyone would say about her weight. “I love my body in every state because it supports me […] I have grown up despising my body, hating every bit of it, so this…this is growth.”

Despite coming to terms with her body, Dolly noted that not everyone around her was as forgiving, leading her to put up boundaries for her own mental well-being. “The other day, as I was about to go see someone, I decided against it because I realised they’re not my safe space,” she penned.

Explaining that she had distanced herself from the people and places who didn’t make her feel loved and accepted, Dolly implored her fans and followers to be the change others need to see. “If you could do something today, try to be someone’s safe space,” she urged in her post. “And count your own blessings of people in your life who don’t care about the kgs fluctuating but the smiles on your face.”

Moved by Dolly’s captivating words, Hania wrote, “It takes tremendous courage to fight your fears and insecurities and then turn every mean comment into your armour and try to give your community something positive out of the negativity you have received. You’re a queen! Thank you for this powerful message!”

As those with a wide reach continue to share uplifting messages slamming body shaming and sharing their own struggles, the effects of their message may slowly trickle down into widespread society.
