The Golden State Warriors came into this season hoping to be a middle-of-the-road team in the Western Conference. With no Klay Thompson, it wasn’t clear who would step in and be the squad’s “official” second option.

Turns out, everyone who had been saying that Thompson hasn’t been in the Warriors’ second option in years was right. Golden State hasn’t missed a beat without him. In fact – they’re better, even if Thompson doesn’t want to hear it to the point that he is willing to beef with Stephen Curry over it.

As things presently stand, the Warriors are the best team in the West and arguably the entire NBA.

Many are now wondering if they will make a big move ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline to cement themselves as official contenders this year.

According to Fadeaway World, two players now appear to be on Golden State’s radar.

“Brooklyn Nets forward duo Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith could be on the Warriors wishlist ahead of the trade deadline,” the report read.

“Johnson is averaging 18.1 points and 4.3 rebounds so far this season, providing extremely high-level wing play for the Nets. With the franchise reportedly making everyone on the roster available for potential trades, Johnson might be the one to generate the most interest. He’s a three-level scorer who is shooting 39.3% from three-point range on 7.8 attempts per game.”

Because the asking price for Johnson may prove to be too hefty, Finney-Smith could offer something of a happy medium in terms of value and production.

“Finney-Smith isn’t the offensive spark plug Johnson is, averaging 11.2 points and 4.7 rebounds on 42.5% from three this season. But he’s an extremely dependable frontcourt defender who plays with high IQ and versatility to be on the perimeter or on the inside.”

It will be interesting to see what direction Golden State opts to go in.

The Warriors’ hot start has been one of the NBA’s big surprise stories of the year. Whether or not they will be able to keep it going remains to be seen, though.
