Our tax dollars should be funding care not killing' | The Express Tribune
The heat of the American election may have subsided, but the Hollywood-driven support for Palestine continues unceasingly. Artists, who have made a firm appeal to action in the past, continue to speak out against the genocide. That list includes Cynthia Nixon, who has remained faithful to her stance ever since she began protesting for Palestine.
In a recent post shared to Instagram, the 58-year-old actor wrote, "Of the tens of thousands of people killed in Gaza by Israel's far-right regime, 44 per cent are children and babies according to an in depth UN analysis of a six month period. Contact your US Senator and tell them to stop sending weapons to Israel that are being used to kill so many innocent civilians in flagrant violation of US and international law."
Cynthia further redirected her followers to a link in her bio, which would allow them to play their part in making a change. She also reminded her audience that Wednesday of this week marked the Senate's first vote in History to block weapons to Israel. "Tell your Senator our tax dollars should be funding care not killing," she urged. Her Stories echoed the same sentiment.
Her words were pinned to a carousel displaying her in attendance at a memorial held in remembrance of the deceased. Candles were strewn across the ground as attendees marked a long sheet with splotches of red paint. Names of the departed hung from trees as a stark reminder of the ongoing genocide.
Last December, the Baby's Day Out actor partook in a hunger strike to protest in favour of a ceasefire, as per Teen Vogue. She marched the streets, holding up a placard that demanded, "Biden, you are starving Gaza. Permanent ceasefire now!"
In September of this year, she also joined Mark Ruffalo, Riz Ahmed, and more of the 700 industry professionals in signing an open letter from SAG-AFTRA & Sister Guild Members, calling for ceasefire and an end to the "McCarthyist repression" of those who "acknowledge Palestinian suffering", as per Deadline.
