How to watch Wrexham vs. Reading: Live stream, channel, start time, odds, prediction, pick
The English Football League is on CBS Sports, and you can now watch Wrexham's journey for further promotion. Currently, in League One after securing back-to-back promotions from the National League up to the third division, the Red Dragons are quite a story in the making. Backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have had an injection of cash to attract top players for the push-up to higher leagues.
In reaching League One, Wrexham are now in a tougher part of the ladder where buying the best players may not be enough to secure promotion to the Championship but even a midtable finish would be a success in their first season in the third division. The goal is for them to reach the Premier League and at the moment, the Red Dragons are on track but there are a lot of steps between League One and the top flight.
Wrexham are one of four Welsh clubs in the EFL alongside Newport County in League Two, while Cardiff City and Swansea are both are in the Championship. Playing their home matches at the Racecourse ground which has existed since 1807, Wrexham plays their matches at the oldest venue in the world which has been their home since 1864.
Their journey has been documented in the TV series "Welcome to Wrexham" which helped many around the world learn the story of the Red Dragons but their success on the pitch has boosted them as well. Initially purchased by Reynolds and McElhenney for $2.5 million, this team continues to grow by the day.
This weekend the Championship and the rest of the English Football League action kicks off as the journey to the richest Game in sport begins, and you can catch the action on Paramount+, CBS Sports Golazo Network and CBS Sports Network all season long.
Here's how to watch them:
How to watch and odds
- Date: Saturday, Aug. 24 | Time: 10 a.m. ET
- Location: Racecourse Ground -- Wrexham, Wales
- Live stream: Paramount+
- Odds: Wrexham -111; Draw +250; Reading +255
Can the Red Dragons keep up their undefeated start?
So far, Wrexham's time in League One can't have gotten off to a much better start with a win and a draw in two matches played. Being able to hold Bolton Wanderers level is especially impressive after they were in the playoffs last season. Despite Paul Mullin being sidelined with an injury, scoring hasn't been a problem for the Red Dragons but they'll need to get past a Reading side that's also undefeated in the early stages of the season.
Last season, Reading struggled only finishing 17th place in League One so this should be an easier challenge for Wrexham as they return home. No matches can be taken for granted however as a dropped point can be the difference between making playoffs and a mid-table finish.
Prediction
Wrexham will keep their good form rolling in a new division as teams are put on notice about their attacking prowess. As the defense improves, the Red Dragons could end up being serious promotion contenders yet again. Pick: Wrexham 3, Reading 1
