How many Olympic medals does Alex Morgan have?
Think of the USWNT and one name comes to mind: Alexandra Morgan Carrasco. Yes, Alex Morgan has been the face of women’s soccer for what feels like forever and she has led her USWNT to incredible success as the rest of the world has strived to play catch up.
Of course, over the years, the USWNT has participated in various Olympic Games, with Morgan starring in a number of them. This time around, however, she’s not made the cut, with Emma Hayes looking ahead to the future and selecting a number of younger stars in place of the older generation.
So, with that in mind, we thought it would be a nice idea to look back at Morgan’s Olympic medal count:
Alex Morgan’s USWNT Olympic medal count
Alex Morgan has won a grand total of 2 Olympic medals. Her first time at the Games was in 2012, where, with Morgan coming into her prime, she shone, scoring and assisting goals left, right and centre, including a famous match-winning strike in the semi-finals against Canada.
She sent her team to the final against Japan, which they won, giving Morgan gold on her Olympics debut. During that tournament, she scored 3 goals and recorded 4 assists, a team high.
Morgan’s Olympic highs and lows
In this tournament, despite Morgan performing well, her side were knocked out against an impressive Sweden team at the quarter-final stage, meaning that 2020 would be her next chance for more Olympic glory.
Her pregnancy caused her to miss out on qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, but Morgan travelled with the squad to Japan and went all the way to the semi-finals, where her side lost to Canada. In the Bronze medal game, which will go down in the memory as one of the craziest ties in football history, Morgan came away victorious and earned her second Olympic medal of her illustrious career.
So, Morgan has a gold and a bronze Olympic medals to add to her stunning trophy cabinet that includes the highest honours a player can receive in the Game. However, as we all know, there’s something special about the Olympics, and for sure the two shiny medals will have a special place in her heart.
