4:48 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 9) – Booth 7/5 (2-star play)

Race 9 at Churchill Downs is an extended six furlong stakes contest for two-year-olds and I like the Steve Asmussen trained Booth who was a winner on debut at Keeneland last month.

This son of Mitole made all of the running to win by an impressive five and a quarter length margin, under a hand ride, and he looks to be a very exciting colt.

5:18 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 10) – Intricate 6/1 (1-star play)

The Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes features a field of eight promising two-year-old fillies with the likes of Thorpedo Anna and West Sunset to be feared but Brendan Walsh’s Intricate can come out on top.

She improved on her debut fifth here to score in determined fashion at Keeneland and if she improves again then she could prove tough to beat.

5:48 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 11) – Awesome Road 7/2 (2-star play)

Brad Cox won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last year with Instant Coffee and he has a great chance of going back-to-back with Awesome Roadwho will find this task easier than his Grade 1 attempt last time out.

Flavien Prat’s mount found the Breeders’ Futurity tough going but he has since been putting in some solid workouts at this course and I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on in Grade 2 company.

6:18 pm ET Churchill Downs (Race 12) – Fibber 16/1 (1-star play)

This is an open looking stakes event on the dirt course and one who can hit the board at a price is the filly in stall two, Fibber.

Form figures from three starts read 113 and I fancy her to go well if her jockey Mitchell Murrill can get her out and into a handy position early from her inside stall as she was bumped and caught a little too far back when finishing well last time out.
