Davika Hoorne, better known as Mai, has become one of Thailand’s most recognisable figures, not just on the screen but also on a global fashion stage. As Gucci’s first-ever Thai brand ambassador, she continues to make her mark both in the Entertainment industry and on international runways.
Everything You Need to Know About Davika Hoorne
Born on May 16, 1992, to a Thai mother and Belgian father, Davika Hoorne grew up in Bangkok, where she attended Phraharuthai Donmuang School and Kevalee International School, later graduating from Rangsit University. From an early age, Davika had an interested in modelling and entertainment, a passion she pursued when she began her career as a model in 2010. Her modelling work quickly brought her attention, leading to her first acting role in the TV series Ngao Kammathep in 2010, where she took on a lead role. This debut marked the beginning of her journey in Thailand’s entertainment industry, setting her up for a career that would eventually see her star in countless films and TV series.
The Face of Gucci, Bvlgari and International Fashion
While Davika’s acting career continued to take off, her iNFLuence in the fashion industry grew in parallel. In 2022, she became the first Thai Celebrity to be named a global ambassador for Gucci and Gucci Beauty, representing the brand at prestigious events such as Milan Fashion Week. She has also been featured in several high-profile campaigns, showcasing Gucci’s signature collections.
In addition to her role with Gucci, Davika was named the House Friend for Bvlgari in the South Asia Pacific region during Bvlgari’s ‘Eden, The Garden of Wonders’ presentation in Bangkok.
Her relationship with Gucci, however, began long before this official appointment. Davika has frequently attended Gucci shows in Milan and Castel del Monte and has appeared wearing the brand at red carPet events and on magazine covers.
Beyond Gucci, Davika’s fashion credentials extend to walking runways for luxury labels like Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana. She participated in Tokyo Fashion Week in 2013 and later appeared at New York Fashion Week in 2017. In 2018, she was named as the ‘Most Compelling Newcomer’ for Milan Fashion Week. Davika has also modelled for L’Oreal, walking in their Paris Fashion Week show in 2018. Most recently, she participated in Gucci’s February 2024 show at Milan FashionWeek, solidifying her global fashion presence.
Award-Winning Actress
After her debut in Ngao Kammathep, Davika’s acting career took off with the 2013 film Pee Mak, Thailand’s highest-grossing movie, where her role as Mae Nak propelled her to critical acclaim. In 2015, she starred in Heart Attack (also known as Freelance), a highly praised film directed by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, which won eight Golden Swans at the Subannahongsa Awards.
Her diverse body of work has earned her multiple accolades, including Best Global Teleplay Leading Actress at the 2023 Global Arts and Television Huading Awards. Most recently, in 2024, she won Best Actress in a Webseries for her role in 6ixtynin9: The Series at the 15th Nataraja Awards. From popular TV dramas like My Ambulance and Astrophile to high-grossing films, Davika has consistently taken on roles that challenge her versatility as an actress.
A Friend of UNICEF and Advocate for Wildlife
Outside of her acting and fashion careers, Davika has also dedicated herself to charitable causes. She became Thailand’s ambassador for WildAid’s Ivory Free campaign in 2018, advocating against the use of ivory and promoting wildlife conservation. Her deep connection to elephants inspired her involvement, as she encourages people to stop buying or using ivory products.
In 2016, Davika joined UNICEF on their Basket of Hope fundraising campaign, aimed at raising funds for children impacted by global emergencies. Through her involvement, Davika has used her platform to help provide essentials like Education, Healthcare, and emergency relief to children in need. Davika’s charitable efforts extend beyond just donations – she actively engages in raising awareness. She has visited schools and communities in disadvantaged areas to highlight the importance of access to Education and Healthcare, reinforcing her role as a public advocate for UNICEF’s mission.
Continuing to Shape the Industry
As Davika balances both her acting career and her role as a global fashion ambassador, her influence only continues to grow. In 2023, she was named one of the Business of Fashion (BoF) 500 – an exclusive list of individuals shaping the global fashion industry, curated by the editors of BoF based on nominations and global industry insights. With her ability to blend Thai and international culture in both her roles and her personal style, she remains one of the most influential figures in Thailand’s entertainment landscape.
