Taylor Swift is among celebrities in the world who inspire conversation by simply existing — the same is true whether she’s among fans, foes, or her peers in the Entertainment industry. Here are some of the most funny things celebrities have said about Taylor Swift, plus other comments that are not-so-funny.

While opinions may differ on her style and music, it is irrefutable that Taylor Swift is one of the most powerful celebrities in the world. Given her position in global pop culture, Swift rightly inspires conversation and commentary — not just among fans, but also within the circles inhabited by her contemporaries and peers. But while not all celebrities have complimentary things to say, others have uttered some truly hilarious things. Here are all the funny things celebrities have said about Taylor Swift.

Few topics exist in the realm of pop culture that are as polarising as Taylor Swift. On one hand, Swifties: Fans and friends of the iconic singer who have stuck with her through thick and thin, enduring the media derision of the Reputation era. These are the people who have defended her from public attacks — Selena Gomez, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Jack Antonoff come to mind.

Conversely, Swift’s unlimited celebrity and insatiable appetite for pushing the boundaries of her career has also received negative attention and critique. From her famous beef with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to her fight for music ownership with Scooter Braun, there’s no shortage of small men and women who have built their personalities on their distaste for Swift. Yet, talking about her has always yielded the currency of the modern world: Attention.

Across industries, the ‘Swift bump’ has proved beneficial for sales and marketing figures. Notably, the NFL famously saw an increase in viewership following Swift’s appearances at Games in support of her beau, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. On a global scale, cities that have hosted Swift’s Eras tour concerts have seen upticks in tourism and local Businesses. The economic impact of the tour cannot be overstated, and to date, it has generated an estimated USD 5 billion.

At a base level, it has also become apparent that celebrities who opine on Swift receive media attention in return. From Eras tour appearances to snide interviews in which shots are fired, many celebrities have taken advantage of Swift’s immense celebrity power, riding on the coattails of her success to garner their own fifteen minutes of fame.

In short: It pays off to talk about Taylor Swift. And in the spirit of talking about Taylor Swift, we present celebrities who have said some funny (and not-so-funny) things about the Karma singer.

Funny and not-so-funny things celebrities have said about Taylor Swift

Machine Gun Kelly

While Machine Gun Kelly may have cultivated a reputation for being an impulsive hot head, his reaction when dared to say three mean things about Taylor Swift shows a different side. The 34-year-old musician, who is friends with Swift’s beau Travis Kelce, went up against rapper Trippie Redd during an episode of Hot Ones Versus. The duo chatted over wings, with Redd eventually issuing the challenge for him to, “Burn that bridge by saying three mean things about Taylor Swift.”

In response, Kelly said, “Ladies and gentlemen, you have got to be out of your motherf–cking mind if you think I want any smoke with that fanbase. Also, Taylor is a saint and very nice to me, and Travis is my bro.”

Eminem

Starting beef and a rap battle with a fellow rapper is so last season (we’re looking at you, Drake and Kendrick Lamar). Those who truly know the game start beef with themselves, and that’s exactly what Eminem has done with the release of his conceptual album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). In the album, Eminem pits his real-life persona Marshall Mathers against his alter ego, Slim Shady, and forces the two to battle to the death in songs and rap battles.

Further playing to the theme of his album, Mathers dove into the world of artificial intelligence with Complex, creating an AI-generated version of his Slim alter ego for a promotional video. In the video, Mathers, in the present, argues with Slim from his past, with both making a case for how they have impacted Eminem’s career. Whilst appearing to take shots at Mathers, Slim simultaneously name-drops Taylor Swift, saying, “You’re not f–cking Taylor Swift; you had one era that mattered: mine. Everything that people think of when they think of Eminem is f-cking yours truly; from the blonde hair, to the middle finger, to the f-cking jokes, all of it.”

Katy Perry

While Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have had their fair share of Celebrity beef, recent years have found them in better spirits where the other is concerned. The duo’s feud kicked off when Swift accused Perry of poaching her dancers mid-tour, with both later releasing diss tracks about one another. And while we can’t imagine a world in which the bangers Bad Blood and Swish Swish (ft. Nicki Minaj) do not exist, we’re also glad the two have kissed and made up.

Speaking to Roman Kemp on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Perry joked about the rumours that she and Swift were related, saying, “Well, we fight like cousins! I’m going to have to ask her if this is true or if we should, like, get blood tests together or something.”

Donald Trump

While current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has never been known for intelligent discourse, his comments on Taylor Swift have raised more than a few eyebrows over the years. A liberal with firm beliefs in women’s rights and a strong voice against sexism, Swift has not been shy of her distaste for the former president. Notably, she has slammed his policies and Politics both on X and on her Miss Americana documentary on Netflix, accusing him of both racism and white supremacy.

For his part, Trump had taken shots at Swift in the past, saying it would be ‘disloyal’ for musicians (such as Swift) to endorse the Biden administration. Closer to the present, Trump has once again spoken out about Swift in Apprentice in Wonderland, a book by Entertainment journalist Ramin Setoodeh. Setoodeh shared that his conversation with Trump for the book took place in November 2023.

When asked to comment on Swift, the former president shared, in true Trump fashion, that he thought she was very beautiful — saying little to nothing of her incredible accomplishments as a performer and musician. “I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!” He went on to add, “She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”

Since the early days of Swift’s debut as a country star, the musician has famously explored numerous genres spanning pop, folk, rock, and alternative.

Dave Grohl

While performing at London Stadium on June 22 2024, Foo Fighters lead Dave Grohl appeared to take a shot at Swift, who was also performing in London’s Wembley Stadium that same day. Both acts were performing sold out shows; however, Grohl’s comments appeared to show disdain for the cultural phenomenon that is Swift and her Eras tour.

Speaking to the crowd during his performance, Grohl said, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift. So we like to call our tour the Errors Tour. We’ve had more than a few eras… and more than a few f–cking errors, as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What?”

Swift’s fans have long referred to the Eras tour as the Errors tour, fondly recalling her relatable on-stage humour, hilarious responses to mistakes, and personable relationship with her dancers and fans. Grohl’s comments naturally struck a chord, rallying Swift’s fans around her in support.

Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan

At the 2023 CMA Awards, hosts Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan took to the stage to make several quips about Taylor Swift in good fun. Manning, who also hosted the previous year’s event alongside Bryan, kicked off the night by saying, “We are back! And you know what that means!”

In response, Bryan said, “Yup! Travis and Taylor weren’t available.”

Manning then asked, “Luke, you know the difference between Taylor Swift and the New York Jets?”

Affirming the duo’s admiration for Swift, Bryan joked, “Uh, Taylor can sell out a stadium?”

Ryan Reynolds

Taylor Swift is notably best friends with Blake Lively, the wife of Deadpool & Wolverine actor Ryan Reynolds. As a result, the three have cultivated a deep and abiding friendship over the years, with the actor recently joking in an interview with E! News that Swift would be the perfect Deadpool to carry on the franchise. Asked on whether Swift would make a cameo in the recent Deadpool & Wolverine movie, Reynolds said, “I always do say that if anyone ever were to take over the role of Deadpool, actually Taylor would be very good. Because that’s a superpower that I don’t know that she shows everyone too often: She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

In the same interview, Reynolds also joked that Swift had sued him for making a t-shirt for the movie featuring her cats, Olivia and Meredith, saying, “I was sued, I lost everything in that one. And getting sued by a friend is tough to swallow.”

Ed Sheeran

Famously drama repellent, singer Ed Sheeran has formed a close working relationship and friendship with Swift over the years. In one memorable event, Sheeran dressed up as a clown to surprise Swift on-stage during the Red tour while she performed We Are Never Getting Back Together. While Swift is known for her high-profile girl squad, Sheeran, whose friendship with her goes back decades, has said, “It’s not a vaginas-only club.”

Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert has never been shy about his love of Taylor Swift, and it all boils down to his role as a doting father. In one of his late night monologues, Colbert shared a touching story about how he and his daughter Madeline, then 14, had met Swift at the 2008 Grammy Awards. “I would jump off a cliff into a pit of spikes for that woman, for how nice she was to my daughter. And you gotta remember that!”

When Taylor Swift dropped The Tortured Poets Department earlier this year, fellow celebrities and fans alike sped off to listen, paying no mind to anything else for the duration. However, when she dropped the surprise extended album The Anthology not two hours into the initial release, the world of Swifties rightly erupted into madness and chaos.

While hosting BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show, Greg James’ reaction proved he was every Swiftie who had just spent the past hours weeping to the album. He said, “Oh for God’s sake Taylor. 10 minutes into the Breakfast Show and she’s just released another album. There’s literally no one listening now (to the radio show) because they’ve gone (to listen to TTPD).”
