Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has all but confirmed he will leave the club this summer with his latest comments.

It was widely expected the stopper – who has made just two comPetitive appearances for the Hoops – would depart over the next few weeks, but his recent quotes have only underlined such an assumption.

Signed on a free from Dundee United two summers ago, the 32-year-old was drafted in as a backup who could perhaps challenge Joe Hart for the number one jersey.

In the end, though, at least under Brendan Rodgers, he turned out to be a third choice with Scott Bain ahead of him in the pecking order.

Having found love with Australian radio presenter Brittany Hockley, Siegrist looks set to relocate this summer. He admitted that while he doesn’t want to retire yet, when he does, he is eager to do so in the homeland of his partner.

He said (Blick via RecordSport): “After my last day at work, I’ll leave as soon as possible. And I’ll never come back here (to Celtic). No. I’m going to retire there (Australia). But not yet. Britt has already indicated that she could do her podcast from Europe. We’re excited.”

Siegrist is one of several fringe players who will depart Celtic this summer. Brendan Rodgers already has numerous positions in the squad to strengthen, but the Swiss stopper more or less confirming his departure reinforces the need for one, or potentially even two, goalkeepers to be signed.
