Forgotten Celtic centre-half Gustaf Lagerbielke has opened the door to a potential Parkhead exit.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan at FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie. His spell in the Netherlands hasn’t gone particularly well so far, however, as he has registered only four appearances in all comPetitions and started just one Game.

Regardless, Lagerbielke seems to be enjoying life at his new club and is getting minutes he wouldn’t be at Celtic, despite how limited they may be.

The Swede recently discussed his long-term future, admitting that while he could return to Parkhead upon the expiry of his loan, there is every chance Twente could buy him permanently: “It is a straight loan until the summer,” he said (Fotbollskanalen via RecordSport).

“Then there is always the possibility that I will be bought. So far, it’s felt very good here, so we’ll see how it goes forward.

“There is always that [chance of going back to Celtic]. I still have a contract there. It’s not out of the question at all. Then I’ll have to see closer to the end of the season what happens with everything. But it’s a fantastic club [Celtic].”

With Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, Liam Scales, Stephen Welsh, and even Maik Nawrocki all ahead of Lagerbielke in the Celtic centre-back pecking order, the chances of him returning to Glasgow and making an impact are slim.

Stranger things have happened, but the future for the Swede at Celtic doesn’t look particularly bright.

Perhaps he could help the club recoup some, if not all, of the £3m they spent on him last summer.

He came in with high hopes, but other than a battling performance in a 1-0 win at Ibrox and a late winner against Feyenoord in a Champions League dead rubber, Lagerbielke hasn’t produced much of note in green and white.
