Who is playing in the 2024 RSM Classic? Johnson, Dahmen, Berger, Moore, Bryan on the bubble
The 2024 RSM Classic brings high-stakes drama to Sea Island Golf Club, as it often does, but this year the focus sharpens on players scrambling to secure their PGA Tour cards. The tournament’s bubble watch — headlined by the likes of Zach Johnson, Joel Dahmen, Daniel Berger, Ryan Moore, and Wesley Bryan — is where the intrigue really lies.
On the bubble: chasing crucial points
Johnson, a two-time major winner and Ryder Cup captain, is navigating unfamiliar territory near the edge of the FedEx Fall top 125 standings. While his place in Golf’s History books is secure, his future on tour for next season is anything but. The same holds true for Dahmen, the everyman favorite who sits precariously at 124th after some unremarkable finishes this fall.
Bryan, Berger, and Moore round out the group of seasoned pros feeling the pressure. Bryan clings to 125th, with Berger and Moore just outside at 127th and 129th, respectively. For these players, the RSM Classic isn’t just another stop — it’s their last shot at securing a future on the PGA Tour without the added grind of the Korn Ferry Tour finals.
RSM Classic defending champion Aberg is back
Ludvig Aberg returns to defend his title after torching the tournament record with a jaw-dropping -29 last year. He’ll face tough comPetition from the likes of Brian Harman, Sepp Straka, and J.T. Poston, but his place in the field feels more like a victory lap.
The same can’t be said for the bubble players, whose tournament stakes couldn’t be higher.
Dahmen’s relaxed personality may be his calling card, but expect to see a sense of urgency on the course this week. For players like Bryan, every putt and approach carries the weight of a season — and potentially a career. Check out the full player field.
Where is the 2024 RSM Classic being played?
The RSM Classic’s unique dual-course setup adds to the intrigue. The Seaside Course, a par-70 spanning 7,005 yards, offers broad fairways, receptive greens, and scoring opportunities — especially when the wind is tame. Last year, the calm conditions allowed for record-breaking numbers, but this year’s forecast could shuffle the deck.
Meanwhile, the Plantation Course’s par-72 layout, at 7,060 yards, presents its own challenges. The 2018 redesign by Davis Love III has made its already tricky greens even tougher. If the wind picks up, Plantation could become the safer haven, forcing players to adapt their strategies mid-tournament.
If past tournaments are anything to go by, the Seaside’s 368-yard par-4 8th and the Plantation’s par-5 15th, a 565-yard beast, could prove pivotal. Could they be the difference for those on the bubble? We’ll be keeping close tabs on the action all the way through to its climax on Sunday.
