‘Dune’ prequel set to star Indian icon Tabu

The highly anticipated Max prequel series Dune: Prophecy has added a stellar talent to its cast, with Indian icon Tabu joining in a recurring role, as per a Variety exclusive report. Originally titled Dune: The Sisterhood when commissioned in 2019, the series draws inspiration from the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides' rise, Dune: Prophecy explores the saga's universe, focusing on two Harkonnen sisters as they confront threats to humanity's future and lay the foundation for the Bene Gesserit sect. Despite the intriguing premise, the series has yet to announce a premiere date.

Tabu's addition to the cast as Sister Francesca brings depth and allure to the narrative. Described as strong, intelligent, and captivating, Sister Francesca's return to the palace after being a significant figure in the Emperor's life adds tension to the power dynamics of the capital.

Tabu's esteemed reputation in Indian cinema further enhances the series' appeal, adding gravitas to the production. Dune: Prophecy has faced its share of challenges, including changes in showrunners and a creative overhaul in 2023. However, with the success of the two Dune films released thus far, grossing over $1.1 billion collectively, anticipation for the series is at an all-time high.
