DeMar DeRozan is one of the most reliable and offensively-skilled players in the NBA today.

Because of that, he is uniquely qualified to speak on various players both past and present.

This week he appeared on Paul George’s podcast and offered a bold prediction for Victor Wembanyama, who is heading into his second year.

“I don’t think he could’ve went to a better place, a better situation,” DeRozan said of the San Antonio Spurs.

“First of all, from everything I hear, Wemby is already a hell of a kid. So the discipline, the hunger, the drive, the motivation – he already has. Being underneath the tutelage of a [Gregg Popovich].

“I think you’ll be able to tell this season how special (he is). I mean, you could see it in the (gold medal) championship game in the Olympics. You could just see it.”

DeRozan is also confident that Wembanyama’s stint in the 2024 Paris Olympics will only build his confidence.

“We know how playing in the Olympics, what that does for your confidence as it is,” he continued.

“You’re coming out of that type of experience, understanding you’re going to be under Pop again. And also CP (Chris Paul).”

DeRozan’s take on Wembanyama is obviously very different than the one offered by Shaquille O’Neal last week.

Expectations are very high heading into Wembanyama’s sophomore campaign.

Will Wembanyama ultimately be able to deliver? Time will tell.
