Danish Media Rave About ‘Huge’ Kasper Schmeichel Display vs Serbia

If he hadn’t already, Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel captured the hearts of his country last night with a heroic display as Denmark drew 0-0 with Serbia.

The goalless stalemate secured the Danes’ place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League. Schmeichel’s antics were key to it.

Between the sticks, the veteran stopper pulled off some critical saves to keep a clean sheet. It was unsurprising to see him named player of the match.

Back in his homeland, Schmeichel’s display grabbed the headlines, and the Danish media has been full of praise for the keeper.

Tipsbladet led the compliments, writing: “Kasper Schmeichel made two huge saves within the first six minutes of the match, and he kept Denmark in the Game.

“The Danish keeper showed good security in the Danish goal, and in the second half he also delivered a great save. He can therefore be very pleased with the performance.”

Berlingske said the Celtic number one ‘shone’ in yesterday’s triumph, with DR describing one of his particular saves as ‘crucial’: “The keeper started with a couple of good saves that prevented Serbia from getting the desired early lead,” they penned.

“Schmeichel seemed to be injured in relation to kick-off, but in the second half pulled up another super save on an attempt from Vlaovic. Third clean sheet against Serbia in 2024.”

Schmeichel’s Antics Won’t Surprise Celtic Fans

Schmeichel’s heroics for his country won’t come as much of a shock to Celtic supporters.

The stopper has been in fine fettle since joining the Scottish Premiership champions in the summer. Especially on a free, he was arguably the club’s signing of the window.

The 38-year-old has been an upgrade on Joe Hart and proved that he can cope both domestically and at European level for his club.

Schmeichel will now buckle down for an ultramarathon of fixtures between now and next March.
