Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has responded to speculation that Alex Valle’s loan could be cut short, following reports that Barcelona may recall the young defender in January.

The rumour gained traction after Valle was left out of the starting lineup for Celtic’s 3-1 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig, replaced by Greg Taylor. Despite this, Valle came on after the hour mark and impressed with his energetic play, showcasing attributes that have made him a fan favourite.

Rodgers moved to reassure fans, downplaying the notion of an early recall. He stated, “Not that I’m aware of [Barcelona looking to cut Valle’s loan short], get told Sky Sports.

“Nobody has told me any different.

“I suppose we’re getting close to the stage where rumours and gossip kick in leading into January.

“I know that Alex has enjoyed his time here and on and off the pitch he’s a really important player for us, so we wouldn’t want to lose him.

“The experiences that he’s getting here in the Champions League and domestic Football—he’s enjoying his time here.”

Valle’s performances at Celtic Park have sparked calls among supporters for the club to consider making his stay permanent.

The 20-year-old has impressed in his role and gained valuable experience in both domestic and European fixtures.

Rodgers’ comments suggest that, for now, Valle remains an integral part of Celtic’s squad and the club hopes to retain him through the end of the season.

Hopefully, his loan spell isn’t cut short, and he remains in Glasgow for the rest of the season.

He’s looked like a good player with plenty of development ahead of him.

After seeing him for a full season, Celtic will make a decision on whether to chase a permanent deal or allow him to return to Spain.
