Aussie survivor of fatal Italian bus crash disgusted by bus company’s response to offer $16 food voucher

An Australian woman who survived a fatal bus crash in Italy says passengers have been given little support except for being texted a food voucher and phone hotline for inquiries.

One passenger died and 14 were injured in the crash that happened on Sunday morning, local time, near the town of Avellino, about 59 kilometres east of Naples in southern Italy.

The local fire and rescue service tweeted that the lifeless body of a man was found, and workers had to free some passengers from the wreckage.

Sinead Curry posted on her TikTok account that she was on board with two other Australians, one of them being her partner.

Curry, who appears to be wearing a neck brace in the video, said passengers were asleep when the bus, operated by the local company FlixBus, hit something.

“It went airborne. Spun around a bunch of times. We’re all being flung around like in a blender and landed down an embankment on the other side of the road,” she said in the video.

Curry said the other Australian passenger broke her collarbone, but she and her partner were discharged from hospital.

She said they were contacting FlixBus for support through the hotline provided because they needed transport to their intended destination, to collect their luggage and information on interim accommodation, but no one from the company was responding to their calls.

“They offered us via text a 10 Euro ($AUD16.20) meal replacement voucher for the inconvenience,” she said.

“There are a bunch of people here who nearly died. We don’t have any information.”

After a series of videos posted to her TikTok calling out FlixBus for its lack of support, Curry said the company had blocked her social media account.

She said some passengers were put on a private shuttle bus to Rome and given an opportunity to collect their luggage.

“They’re just telling us to keep all our receipts. All we want to is for them to take care of these very precious human lives,” she said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for FlixBus told 7NEWS.com.au it could confirm one of its buses was involved in a car accident.

“According to the latest information available, 26 passengers and one bus driver were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

“Two of the passengers and one of the bus drivers suffered serious injuries.

“The passengers that were slightly injured received medical attention on site and were taken to the municipal gymnasium of Grottaminarda, Avellino, from where they were transported by a replacement bus.

“FlixBus is maintaining close contact to all authorities on site and closely cooperating with them to investigate the causes of the event.

“At all times, the safety of its passengers and drivers is of highest priority to FlixBus.”
