The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter the 2024 season as the defending NFC South Division champs. They were not only able to win the division, but QB Baker Mayfield and the Bucs throttled the Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 in the Wild Card round and gave the Detroit Lions a run for their money in the divisional playoffs.

The Buccaneers head into the new season with a new offensive coordinator, as Dave Canales left to become the head honcho with the Carolina Panthers.  Liam Coen comes over from the Los Angeles Rams to fill the OC role, and the Bucs received high marks for that move, as well as other coaching hires.

The biggest offseason move was retaining Mayfield, who was inked to a 3-year, $100 million deal. He has found a home on the Suncoast after bouncing around for a couple of seasons. And the team kept stalwart WR Mike Evans with him for the next 2 seasons on a $52 million deal. Evans led the league in TDs for the 1st time in his career in 2023, finding the end zone 13 times.

The Bucs also made some decent moves on defense, bringing back tackle machine LB Lavonte David on a 1-year deal, while shoring up the back end with S Jordan Whitehead, and CB Bryce Hall, who was brought in to compete with Zyon McCollum as a replacement for the traded Carlton Davis III.

The Buccaneers might not have made the splashy headline moves like the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, but this Tampa Bay team will once again be quite formidable on both sides of the football.

Buccaneers over/under win total

Odds provided by FanDuel Sportsbook – last updated May 28 at 8:57 p.m. ET; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list.

  • 7.5 wins: (Over: -150 | Under: +122)

According to the Sharp Football Analysis, which based its calculations off the Vegas Forecasted Win Totals, the Buccaneers have the 11th-easiest schedule in the NFL. Their implied line of 8.15 wins is well below the projections by the sportsbooks.

Delving into the schedule on a game-by-game basis, at least based on what we know about teams from last season, and their offseason moves, Tampa could get off to a hot start. It wouldn’t be shocking to see a 2-2 or 3-1 Bucs teams heading to Atlanta for that TNF game in Week 5.

The schedule gets a little dicey from late September until the bye week, with not many sure wins to be had.

However, things lighten up considerably after the bye, and Tampa Bay could go on a sustained late-season run.

Based on the schedule, OVER 7.5 WINS (-150) looks like a really good bet. Bowles has proven he has the coaching chops to get the job done in Tampa, Mayfield and Evans are back, David was retained, and there is little reason to believe this team will take a major step back.

Buccaneers Super Bowl odds

  • +5500 (bet $100 to win $5,500)

The Buccaneers were just 2 wins away from going to the Super Bowl, and their loss on the road in the NFC Divisional playoffs in Detroit was a 1-score game. This is a team which isn’t as bad as the sportsbooks are suggesting. However, this isn’t really a team capable of winning it all, either.

The division rivals Carolina Panthers have the longest odds in the NFL at +30000, while the New England Patriots have the longest odds among AFC teams at +18000.

At +5500, Tampa Bay has an implied probability of winning the Super Bowl of just 1.79% or 55/1 fractional odds.

The San Francisco 49ers (+550) are the favorites, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs (+600) and Baltimore Ravens (+950).

Backing the Bucs to win the Super Bowl isn’t a great idea. This could very well be a team which makes the playoffs, but the run will end rather abruptly.

AVOID.

Will Buccaneers make the playoffs?

  • Yes +144 | No -178

The Buccaneers managed 9 wins, a division title and a playoff home win in 2023. They’re being brushed off by the sportsbooks, who apparently are enamored with the offseason moves the Falcons made. But it’s an old saying, and it’s been used in this space before, but to be the champs, you have to beat the champs.

Tampa Bay didn’t lose much from last season’s team. Mayfield is happy, he was productive, and he was brought back on a team-friendly deal. And the team brought back Evans, too, so that tandem should make beautiful music again in 2024.

Backing the Buccaneers to make the postseason isn’t a crazy idea, especially when YES (+144) is plus-money. This is a shabby division, and it has been even since Tom Brady’s final campaign. Making the playoffs in the NFC South usually means winning the division, and the Bucs have a decent shot at doing so again. The Falcons made some nice moves, but they’re certainly not miles ahead like the books suggest.

Odds to win NFC South Division

  • Falcons -120 (bet $120 to win $100)
  • Buccaneers +290 (bet $100 to win $290)
  • Saints +340 (bet $100 to win $340)
  • Panthers +1400 (bet $100 to win $1,400)

Tampa Bay’s implied probability of winning the NFC South is 25.64% or 29/10 fractional odds.

The Falcons were busy in free agency, nabbing QB Kirk Cousins from the Minnsota Vikings and WR Darnell Mooney from the Chicago Bears. But Cousins is coming back from a major season-ending injury, while changing teams. The team also hired Raheem Morris, the former Bucs coach, to lead the ship. He is 21-38 in his career as the head man. There is a lot of risk with Atlanta, while we know exactly what we’re getting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – consistency.

The Bucs kept the band together on offense, and the team retained David, while adding some decent pieces to the back end. Tampa Bay has the potential to win 9 or 10 games, and for the chance to nearly triple up, BUCCANEERS (+290) to win the NFC South is a strong value play.

Buccaneers odds to win NFC

  • +3000 (bet $100 to win $3,000)

The Buccaneers could very well win the NFC South, making the playoffs for the 5th consecutive season. However, there is a big difference between just making the playoffs, and winning 2 or 3 postseason games to get to the big game.

Tampa Bay has a team capable of securing one of the 7 playoff spots in the NFC, likely be winning the division again. And it proved if there is a home playoff game in Tampa, it’s a tough place for an opponent to play. But this isn’t a championship-caliber team, capable of running the table once it gets to the postseason.

PASS.
