Why has Phil Foden left the England Euro 2024 squad?
Phil Foden has left the England squad to fly home due to ‘family matters’, the English FA have announced.
The Manchester City midfielder, who has started all three of England’s Games, will fly home to England before returning once the matter is resolved.
Why did Foden leave the England camp?
Sky Sports reported that “Foden wants to go back and be with his girlfriend for a very short period of time before he comes back out to Germany to continue with England and this tournament.”
“It is well known that Foden is having a third baby with his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke. They confirmed that in April with a baby shower in Stockport and they put some photos on his Instagram account announcing the happy news.”
Will Foden play in England’s next game?
The same outlet reported that Foden “has the full blessing of Gareth Southgate to do this, and that Southgate expects him to be back in camp in good time for the last-16 Game on Sunday”.
England have played all three of their group games at the Euros, winning one and drawing two. They topped thr group and await their opponent in the next round to be decided.
As of yet, the Three Lions have not shone in any of their Games, with press and fan criticism hitting the squad hard as they look to win the Euros for what would be the first time in the country’s History.
