Mohamed Salah proved the match-winner again for Liverpool on Saturday, firing home in front of the Kop to secure a come-from-behind victory over Brighton & Hove Anfield.

That Game was Liverpool’s tenth Premier league match under new boss Arne Slot and their eighth win in that time, a club record for the Dutchman.

But despite the red-hot start to 2024/25, there is still a sense of uncertainty at Anfield. Salah, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Djik, is set to leave the club on a free transfer next summer unless a contract extension can be agreed.

On a social media post published on Sunday afternoon, Salah addressed the Liverpool fans: “Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

That final sentence - ‘no matter what happens’ - will cause unease among Liverpool fans unwilling to countenance life without their talisman. It’s far from definitive, but Salah certainty seems to be throwing some doubt on his future at the club.

What is Mohamed Salah’s salary at Liverpool?

Salah is thought to be the highest-paid player at Liverpool but he remains very good value for money for the Reds. In 2022 he signed a three-year extension thought to be worth around $54.6 million, netting him an annual salary of $18.2 million.

Even at his advanced age, Salah is one of the most feared attackers in world soccer and Liverpool would struggle to find an adequate replacement. Many commentators have urged the Anfield hierarchy to move swiftly and resolve the contract situation before he is free to discuss terms with other teams in January.

He’s unbelievable, he really is. He’s excellent. Past Robbie Fowler, chasing Thierry Henry. There have been talks about contracts being under review or not – they have got to sign him,” former Premier League star-turned-pundit Micah Richards said.

“It is imperative that they give him a two-year deal at the end of the season. He’ll be 33 in the summer, it will take him to 35.”
