Who is Slavko Vincic, the referee for Real Madrid vs AC Milan matchday 4 Champions League clash?
Slovenian match official Slavko Vincic is set to return to Spain for the fourth matchday of the 2024-25 Champions League new Swiss Model league format.
After recently taking charge of the third matchday clash in the Catalan capital between Barcelona and Bayern Munich which saw Hansi Flick’s men run out 4-1 winners, Vincic is set to head to Madrid as Los Blancos welcome Serie A’s AC Milan.
The 44-year-old is one of the top referee’s on UEFA’s books at present and was the man in the middle at Wembley Stadium as he oversaw last season’s Champions League final taking charge of Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
He made his Champions League debut in 2016 and has overseen more than 40 Games in Europe’s top club comPetition. He has also been involved in Europa League Games, overseeing the Frankfurt-Rangers final in Seville (2022) and has even officiated in Saudi Arabia taking charge of Al Hilal’s recent win over Al Ahli last month in Riyadh.
Vincic’s international pedigree
Vincic has featured at three major tournaments and oversaw Games at Euro 2020, World Cup 2022 (overseeing Saudi Arabia’s historic 2-1 over eventual winners Argentina) and Euro 2024, officiating three Games: Spain vs Italy, Hungary vs Switzerland and the semi-final between Spain and France in Munich.
Who are Vincic’s assistants for Madrid vs Milan?
Vincic will head up an almost all-Slovenian team of officials in Madrid with Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic set to be the assistant referees, and Matej Jug will be the fourth official. The video assistant referee (VAR) will be Pol Van Boekel from the Netherlands with the assistant VAR to be Tiago Martins from Portugal.
