Who is Servando Carrasco, Alex Morgan’s husband and former LA Galaxy player?
USWNT superstar Alex Morgan announced on Thursday that she is retiring from soccer after Sunday’s match between the San Diego Wave and the North Carolina Courage at Snapdragon Stadium, and that she is expecting her second child with husband Servando Carrasco, who formerly played for the LA Galaxy among other MLS teams.
Alex Morgan’s emotional retirement video message
In an emotional video posted on social media, the 35-year-old said: “This is not the retirement video I expected when I initially thought I was going to do this, because Charlie’s going to be a big sister. I’m pregnant!
“And as unexpected as this came, we are so overjoyed. To me, family means everything. I wouldn’t be here without my husband and my family uplifting and motivating and encouraging and supporting me and sacrificing for me for the last 15 years as a professional athlete”.
Morgan also revealed she was “so grateful” to get one last Game for the San Diego Wave against the North Carolina Courage on Sunday.
The two-time Women’s World Cup winner already has one child with Carrasco, a daughter called Charlie who was born in May 2020.
Servando Carrasco: who is Alex Morgan married to?
Morgan met Carrasco, 36, when both were studying and playing soccer for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley. She was drafted by the Western New York Flash of the now folded Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) in 2011, the same year he signed for the Seattle Sounders.
Carrasco played 54 Games (40 in MLS) for the Sounders between 2011 and 2013, with Morgan joining Seattle’s women’s team for a brief spell in 2012.
A defensive midfielder, he also turned out for Houston Dynamo (2013-14), Sporting Kansas City (2015), Orlando City (2015-17) and LA Galaxy (2018-19) in MLS before finishing his career at the age of 32 with Fort Lauderdale CF, now Inter Miami II, in 2020.
The Californian scored two goals in 200 professional Games (173 in MLS), with Orlando City (62 Games, 1 goal) the team he played for most during his nine-year career.
