The young Spaniard and his Serbian counterpart have been the men to beat in tennis over the last few years and while the latter appears to be coming to the end vs. the rising star who is just establishing himself, the reality is both will continue to shape the game of tennis for some time to come. That’s precisely why the chance to see them take on each other one again is a luxury. Add to that the presence of two of tennis’ great players and you’ve got yourself a match for the ages.

Carlos Alcaraz & Novak Djokovic to play charity match with legends

Just a few weeks ago Tennis fans were treated to yet another chapter in the Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz rivalry, as the pair faced off in the Paris Olympics men’s singles gold medal match. It was Djokovic who came out on top that day, taking a 4-3 lead in their head-to-head. Now, the two maestros will go at it again in a charity event that will be staged just before the U.S. Open. Only this time there is a twist in that they will be facing off in a doubles match that will feature two legends of the Game.

According to reports, those legends are none other than John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. As per reports, Djokovic and McEnroe will play against Alcaraz and Agassi in the ‘Stars of the Open’ showcase on Wednesday, August, 21st. It is understood that a percentage of the money from ticket sales will be donated to the USTA Foundation. As for the men on the court, fans will know there are 43 major titles between them with Djokovic having won an incredible 24, Agassi claiming eight, McEnroe notching seven, and Alcaraz with four in a career that hopefully has a long way to go still.

It’s worth noting that Djokovic heads to the U.S. Open as the reigning champion and is also fresh off of his first Olympic gold medal after defeating Alcaraz in that aforementioned match in Paris. Needless to say, we can expect to see the Serbian doing everything he can to take his tally in the majors to a record 25. Where Alcaraz is concerned, it’s been quite a year for the young Spaniard despite losing to Djokovic in Paris. Indeed, the 21-year-old won both the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year such that his Olympic disappointment can be considered a blip on his résumé. Truthfully, the ‘Stars of the Open’ promises to be a great show so stay tuned for details on how you can watch the big match.
