Where could Dak Prescott go if the Cowboys don’t give him a contract extension?
The Dallas Cowboys have let their quarterback Dak Prescott continue on into his final year of a four-year contract that would see him becoming a free agent in 2025. They still have a chance to come up with a contract extension, but the longer they wait, the more expensive it becomes. With training camp coming up in just one month and the NFL season just three months away, the sooner Dallas comes up with a plan to keep Dak, the better.
If they don’t, however, then he will be free to go to another team at the start of next season. Last season, Prescott finished as the MVP runner-up, led the league in passing touchdowns (36), and had his best-ever completion percentage. Letting go a three-time Pro Bowler coming off his best season is not exactly advisable, but the way things are going, it’s definitely a possibility. And there are plenty of teams who would be interested in scooping him up.
Let’s take a look at the potential future of Dak Prescott with another NFL team.
NFL teams that could make a deal with Dak Prescott in 2025
Seattle Seahawks
At the moment, the Seahawks are set to start the 2024 season with Geno Smith as their starter and Sam Howell as their backup. However, Smith is heading into the final year of his contract in 2025. Depending on how Smith does this season, the Seahawks could choose to move on from him, and therefore save $25 million against the salary cap.
That would leave them to either start Howell or be in the market for a new quarterback. Of course, Prescott won’t come cheap. But he may be worth it for Seattle, as a more proven (and younger) QB than Smith.
Pittsburgh Steelers
At the moment, the Steelers have committed to just one-year deals for both starting quarterback Russell Wilson and Justin Fields after trading away former first-round pick Kenny Pickett and letting Mason Rudolph go in free agency.
Neither Wilson nor Fields has had great seasons with their recent teams, and if that trend continues in Pittsburgh, Dak could be just the guy they’re looking for as a more long-term solution.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans are currently gambling on Will Levis as their starting quarterback and thus far, he’s not proven he’s worthy of staying. Depending on how this season goes, they could be in the market for a new QB next season.
The Titans have the money to pay what Prescott could be asking and he could take them to where they want to be much faster than drafting a rookie would.
Other potential teams for Prescott
These are just three of several teams that could be interested in Prescott next season. There are plenty of others who will have question marks at the quarterback position at the end of the season, including the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants. Any one of them or more could be interested in picking up a quarterback of Dak’s caliber next season.
