It would be fair to say that the Niners have had a productive last few days as they have locked down contracts with two of the team’s central figures, a fact that will undoubtedly serve it well as it enters the 2024-25 NFL season.

49ers agree contract extension with Trent Williams

San Francisco 49ers fans can now rest a little easier after news on Tuesday confirmed that the franchise has finally agreed to a contract extension with Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams. According to both reports and posts from the defensive stalwart is now set to continue with the Niners following what could be described as a standoff. Indeed, the 36-year-old posted a video of himself and his dog boarding a plane with the caption “year 15″ in reference to his time in the NFL. His post was also followed by an official announcement from the franchise itself, confirming that an extension had been agreed upon.

Where context is concerned, it should be said that Williams had been holding out for a new deal throughout the summer, declining to attend training while doing so. Regarding the deal itself, it’s understood that the former No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft is under contract through the 2026 season after putting pen to paper on a six-year, $138 million extension with the Niners back in 2021. It was an agreement that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL at the time. On the other hand, it’s worth noting that following the 2024 campaign, Williams’ $22 million and $32 million salaries in 2025 and 2026 respectively were not guaranteed.

Understandably, this is very good news for the Niners who managed to tie down Brandon Aiyuk to a new deal as well after what had become a very public and prolonged feud between the two parties. With that in mind, one had to fancy the team’s chances of a deep post season run, something they have done over the last three seasons during which Williams has finished as an All-Pro in each campaign. In terms of what comes next, the Niners will begin their season with a Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets. Rest assured, they will be feeling somewhat more confident about their chances in that matchup now that they can count on the help of a player who has been with the team since it traded for him in 2020.
