What did Jerry Jones say after Cowboys' loss to Falcons?

The Dallas Cowboys suffered their third straight loss on Sunday to the Atlanta Falcons, 27-21. They now sit at 3-5 on the season. Neither the score nor the record is indicative of how bad the Cowboys really are this season. And that is thanks to the owner Jerry Jones, who set this team up for failure from the offseason, and coach Mike McCarthy, whose playcalling and Game management probably should have had him fired long ago.

Despite that, not to mention injuries to their top two players Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, Jones still has faith that this Cowboys team can turn it all around.

Jones uses Michael Irvin as example for this Cowboys team

Despite yet another Game that left much to be desired, Jones still believes in the Cowboys.

He expressed his regret at another loss but used Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin as an example of resilience.

“I‘ve seen Michael Irvin tear up and cry when he couldn’t lose anybody because he‘s just recovering from knee surgery,” said Jones. “Yet his ass came back and led a team to three Super Bowls. I know you can be there if you‘re there. That rom’s full of guys that can get it done.

I hate to say it, but I don‘t think there is a single player at Irvin’s caliber on this team, and I think it’s time Jones starts accepting the reality that the team he created this season is not getting any better, and especially not with this many injured starters.

“I have seen too many times when this thing gets to looking dark, I’ve seen a positive jump up there and go from there,” Jones said. “Personally, I’m a long way from being dismayed about our team, about this year.”

I do believe he’s crossed the line from hope to delusion.

Jones' blind faith extends to coach

Jones mentioned that his faith in the guys to “get it done” includes head coach Mike McCarthy, whose decision-making in this Game was more than questionable.

“I’m good with Mike. I know how hard he works, I like his football mind, I know how good he works,” Jones said. “He’s got, in my mind, an outstanding coaching record. He’s really good with the players, they think highly of him. He’s got a lot of fire in his belly.”

The Cowboys just might make some trade moves

The good news is, Jones is no longer ruling out a trade and may even have something in the works. Not long ago, he was adamant that the team wouldn‘t be active ahead of the deadline. He‘s been insistent all season that this team can win with the roster they have.

But after the loss to the Falcons and injuries continuing to pile up, he‘s now said he’ll do whatever it takes to help the team improve, including potential trades.

“We could, yes,” Jones said of a potential trade this week before the deadline. “It takes two to tango, but we’ve got some things in the mix.”

We’ll probably do a couple of things this week of note, if things work out the way we’d like for them to,” Jones said. “Bottom line is if you knew exactly what to do this wouldn’t be the Game that it is in the NFL.”
