What did CeeDee Lamb say about his outburst and Dak Prescott?
The Cowboys’ second straight home loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday was a tough pill to swallow. Tensions were high and the players struggled to hide how they were feeling. Quarterback Dak Prescott told a heckler to “jump off” the bandwagon when he was leaving the tunnel after the game. And wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was seen having a few outbursts, one in which he yelled at Prescott on the sidelines, and was called out for his poor attitude.
Just after the game, Prescott and a few other players spoke to the media and took accountability for their part in the loss. Lamb, who lost a fumble and dropped a pass in the game, chose not to speak to the press or in the locker room. He’s since come forward and apologized for his behavior.
Lamb apologizes, takes responsibility for Cowboys loss
During the offseason, Lamb held out for the entirety of training camp as he waited for the front office to get a contract extension done. That finally happened after the third preseason game and the Cowboys were back in Dallas preparing for Week 1. While he insisted he was, and appeared to be, in great shape despite the missed practices, it has seemed like the rhythm is off between he and Prescott. His outburst on the sidelines just added to concerns that the two aren’t on the same page.
On Tuesday, Lamb apologized, both for his performance and for his behavior during Sunday’s Game.
“Honestly I got to be truthful to myself and I played a part in that loss, a big part honestly, and nor did my body language nor attitude, approaching the situation help the situation or the outcome of the game,” said Lamb.
Lamb explained that he was more angry at and disappointed in himself than anything else
“But as for me and my performance, I expect a lot out of myself, more than anyone could put on me. And, quite honestly, I failed myself. And obviously, I failed the team just as far as producing and being that Game-breaker player for the team and, obviously, the guy that they can lean on.”
Lamb sets record straight about relationship with Prescott
As for his relationship with Prescott, Lamb set the record straight. He recognized that he reacted poorly and aims to do better in the future, but assured that he and Prescott don’t have any issues with each other. Prescott did not speak to the media on Tuesday, but told reporters after the game that he wasn’t worried about things like “body language”.
“I know that’s not the player I am,” Lamb said. “I know that’s not the teammate I am. … It was a bad game on my end. I fully take accountability in that. I will be better in the future. And it’s gonna be fine.”
“Our relationship, if anything, [has] gotten stronger,” Lamb went on. “Don’t let what’s out there fool you. We’re brothers to the end. We know that we all we got, and I tip my hat off to him. I got the utmost respect for him, and I look at him as a brother. So, with that being said, everything is going to come out: the energy, the passion, the love, the fight. You going to make up in the end.”
Lamb is off to a slower than usual start this season. After landing his four-year, $136 million contract extension, he’s caught just 13 balls for 218 yards and one touchdown through the first three weeks.
“Ain’t no excuse for that,” said Lamb, dismissing the idea that missing training camp contributed to his slow start and errors on Sunday. “I played Football my whole life. I know better.”
Lamb and the Cowboys now shift their focus to this week’s Game against NFC East foes the New York Giants. It’s a short week as they play on the road on Thursday night. Lamb is ready to learn from his mistakes and improve on them in Week 4.
“And, yeah, I kind of let the game get to my head a little bit. But in the same sense, I know what I can do,” said Lamb. “I know what I bring to the table, and I know what I can do on that field. So, with that being said, going forward, there shall be a difference.”
