WATCH: Oettinger makes insane save, admits he “got lucky”
The Dallas Stars clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs with their first goal against the St. Louis Blues. That sent them into overtime and into a shootout. Jason Robertson gave them the second goal in their 2-1 win to seal the deal on an impressive backhand on the first shot of the shootout.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger had an incredible night, making 26 saves of 27 shots on the night, including one by accident. During the shootout, Blues’ Robert Thomas took a shot and Oettinger looked like he thought the Game was over already, but he casually lifted his stick behind him and knocked the puck away, keeping the Game in overtime.
After the Game, he admitted that it was indeed just a lucky save. “Yeah, I thought the Game was over for sure. I kind of got locked in on, I think it was [Christian] Kyrou, and then just like threw my stick over at the last second,” said Oettinger. “That’s kind of one of those ones that you make in practice... I was like, ‘oh crap!’, and then I just got lucky.”
The Stars have secured home-ice advantage and will now wait to see who and when they play in the first two Games of the playoffs.
