Celtic are poised to bolster their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Viljami Sinisalo, according to recent reports.

As Kasper Schmeichel is on the brink of being unveiled as a new Hoops player, having a medical within the next day or two, the club is also closing in on a deal for the young Aston Villa goalkeeper.

Schmeichel, 37, a free agent after leaving Anderlecht, is familiar with Brendan Rodgers from their time together at Leicester City. This summer, Celtic were linked with numerous goalkeepers in their quest to find a successor for the retired Joe Hart, with Schmeichel emerging as the primary candidate late last week.

However, the Scottish Sun reports that Sinisalo, 22, is also set for a permanent move to Parkhead. While Schmeichel is expected to take the number one spot this season, Sinisalo is seen as a promising talent for the future, aligning with Rodgers’ long-term vision for the team.

This impending transfer likely spells the end for Benjamin Siegrist at Celtic, who has been seeking an exit for the past year. As the club prepares for the upcoming season, securing both experience and potential in their goalkeeping department appears to be a sensible move. It would be great if Sinasalo turned out to be that long term option rather than just a below standard back up.
