After Meryl Streep herself posted a picture of Miranda Priestly on her Instagram account, and we had to eat a cube of cheese to keep ourselves from fainting, we knew it was real. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in the works, and with much of the original cast returning, we have a feeling it is going to be like florals for spring. As we prepare for the sequel, here are a few plot lines we’d love to see on the The Devil Wears Prada 2.

As it turns out, that’s not all for Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, as Disney has confirmed that a The Devil Wears Prada sequel is in the works. Whilst the news had fans hyped up and heavily quoting the film all week, the latest reveal that “Miranda will return” has sent excitement levels to a new stratosphere. Loins were so very girded.

The Devil Wears Prada returns

The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 comedy-drama that follows the life of “devil” magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and her assistants Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt).

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, the film was a massive box-office hit after its release almost 20 years ago, and has been quoted many times, especially by those working in the media or fashion circles. A tale of identity, integrity, power-play, and power-dressing, the film resonated with audiences across the globe, and now, after some serious teasing, is confirmed for a sequel.

What is the plot for The Devil Wears Prada 2 about?

According to Variety, the original film’s screenwriter, Aline Brosch Mckennea, is in talks to write The Devil Wears Prada 2. It is rumoured that the plot will follow Priestly in a world where traditional magazine publishing is on the decline. It will likely also see her face up to new (and familiar) forces in the fashion industry, as they come for her crown.

Whilst we don’t know much yet, it was hard not to imagine what Runway would look and feel like in a post-Covid, mid-ChatGPT, deep-TikTok world. Before Miranda’s coffee gets here (“has she died or something?”), here are a few ideas we had for the plot of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Andy Sachs returns and gets promoted at Runway, and proves that indeed, “everybody wants to be us”

Andy has her own column now, declines invites for hideous skirt conventions, and finally knows how to spell “Gabbana.” She has been summoned to help Miranda take on publishing in the digital era. She still bores her with her questions sometimes.

Miranda Priestly becomes an advocate for climate change, after she finds it isn’t just drizzling anymore

The storms are ruining the vibes in her Upper East Side townhouse. The twins want the latest manuscript for Bridgerton. Miranda realises she needs to keep up with the times. She also gets a standing desk with a walking pad.

Emily is hooked on Ozempic, and has still never been to Paris. She becomes an influencer, and collabs with Emily (of Paris)

We’d love a Healthier plot line for her in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but it would be out of character. Emily doesn’t eat carbs, after all. Head strong, she forges her own path and sets out to destroy Miranda. She still refuses to be sick, because she’s wearing Valentino, for crying out loud.

Nigel gets another chance at a fabulous makeover montage

Will it be curtain bangs? Will it be Tenniscore? Will it be vintage Manolos? Please give this man a chance to do another makeover montage. The Devil Wears Prada did Nigel dirty, and the plot for the sequel will see his redemption. Nigel consults for luxury clients now, chooses his own hours, and has curated his own fashion closet. Obviously, there’s still no room for a size 6.

Andy dates a man in finance, trust fund, 6’5, with cerulean blue eyes. They understand work-life-balance

After the song wouldn’t stop playing at clubs across NYC, Andy dates a man in finance, 6’5, cerulean blue eyes. Finally, she’s with someone who is not completely unbearable. Boundaries are clear. They communicate. Turns out it wasn’t so hard.

Gisele Bündchen is still the stylish colleague with specs

In fact, we’d love to see even more supermodel cameos in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford filling up their Stanley Cups at the water cooler? Linda Evangelista hoping to get these notepads reimbursed? Kate Moss going for a smoke break? Say no more.

Christian Thompson writes a tell-all, but no one cares

Andy’s one-night-stand Christian Thompson tries to expose the media industry, but nobody likes a snitch. He sends a copy to Nate at his Boston restaurant, and he uses the paper to absorb excess grease from frying fish. Also, the whole film is about how print is dying. Christian doesn’t get with the program, as usual.
