On Valentines Day 2023, a Microsoft Edge update will finally retire the desktop application.

The update will be delivered to all devices, both commercial and consumer, at the same time.

Users will be unable to reverse the change.

“The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application is scheduled to be permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10 on February 14, 2023,” Microsoft said.

“IE11 visual references, such as the IE11 icons on the Start Menu and taskbar, will be removed by the June 2023 Windows security update (“B” release) scheduled for June 13, 2023,” Microsoft said.

Microsoft warned Businesses still using Internet Explorer to make the switch to Microsoft Edge before 14 February to avoid any technical disruptions.

Support for the application by Microsoft 10 was pulled in June 2022, signalling the official retirement of the once industry-leading browser which launched in 1995.

It became one of the most popular ways for people to access the internet, and produced 11 versions between 1995 and 2013.
