Sutton Tips Aberdeen for Top Two League Finish Ahead of Celtic Clash
Chris Sutton has sparked debate ahead of this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash between Celtic and Aberdeen, suggesting the Dons could pose a serious challenge to the Hoops and rivals Rangers’ usual chokehold on the Scottish Premiership.
Under Jimmy Thelin’s management, Aberdeen have enjoyed a flawless start to the season, and Sutton believes they could even finish second this year, splitting the Bhoys and their city foes.
“I think Aberdeen have won every Game and so have Celtic this season,” said Sutton [It’s All Kicking Off Podcast via RecordSport].
“There is a possibility Aberdeen could split Celtic and Rangers this season.”
Aberdeen’s success so far has largely been credited to Thelin’s impressive work at Pittodrie, which has put the Dons level on points with the champions seven Games into 2024/25. Saturday’s showdown at Celtic Park, though, will be a true test of their credentials. Facing an in-form Celtic side, who have also won every league Game so far, will provide a stern examination of Aberdeen’s mettle.
Celtic’s domestic season has been Business as usual. Brendan Rodgers’ men have been impeccable in their league form so far.
As they look to retain their Premiership crown, they’ll see Saturday’s match as an opportunity to assert their dominance further and put any talk of a challenge from Aberdeen firmly to bed.
Both teams are level on points going into the weekend, meaning something has to give in Glasgow’s east end.
Should Celtic come out on top, it would be a significant statement to their challengers. For Aberdeen, a win at Parkhead would send shockwaves through the league and further fuel speculation that they could break the long-standing duopoly at the summit of Scottish Football.
One thing’s for sure: the stage is set for a thrilling encounter.
