Celtic’s Champions League opponents, Young Boys, remain without a permanent manager more than a week after sacking Patrick Rahmen following a disastrous start to the season.

The club is in the middle of a managerial search, with interim boss Joel Magnin, a youth coach, continuing to hold the fort in the meantime.

Rahmen’s dismissal came as no surprise, with the team struggling to find form early in the campaign. Despite being perennial title contenders in Switzerland, Young Boys have failed to deliver the consistency expected of them, leading to the decision to part ways with the 54-year-old.

Joel Magnin, who had been working with the club’s youth system, has stepped in temporarily. However, the lack of movement on securing a permanent replacement has raised eyebrows. Young Boys’ fans are undoubtedly eager to see a fresh face in the dugout as the club seeks domestic and European stability.

The managerial uncertainty comes at a critical juncture in Young Boys’ Champions League campaign, where they face a daunting trip to Celtic Park after Christmas for matchday seven of the league phase. By then, both clubs will have a clearer picture of their European fate.

Celtic will be hoping to capitalise on the Swiss side’s off-field distractions when they meet in Glasgow.

Young Boys will need to steady the ship quickly, as their hopes of progressing in the Champions League could be iNFLuenced by how quickly they find a new leader to steer them forward. Until then, Magnin remains in charge, but for how long is anyone’s guess.
