Steve Kerr Calls Out Team USA Despite Being A Bad Coach

Steve Kerr’s run as the head coach of Team USA has been extremely bumpy.

The squad struggled to come together last year when it was spearheaded by a bunch of young players like Anthony Edwards. Because of that, they went out and recruited league legends like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard to help out.

Unfortunately, Leonard was forced off the team under dubious circumstances and the American side has barely won all their Games up to this point despite the talent disparity that exists.

Why has Team USA struggled? Because Kerr is a bad coach.

Despite all that, Kerr called out his squad this week ahead of the 2024 Olympics commencing.

“That’s what today is about. It’s the reminder. It’s time. We’re here,” Kerr said.

“So it’s got to be 40 minutes of force and attention and focus, and we can’t let teams outplay us effort- and energy-wise like we did the other night against Germany, like we did against South Sudan.”

Kerr believes that Team USA struggled during exhibition play because players weren’t playing hard enough.

“It’s literally six Games and, watching the tape, we’re jogging through some possessions,” Kerr said. “We’re not hitting bodies on boxouts. And so it’s time. It’s time to lock in on that.”

Kerr didn’t stop there, though.

“We have another level. I think we have another two levels that we can get to, but it’s a collaboration always,” he continued.

“So we can show the strategic stuff on the tape walk-through. We can show them, ‘Let’s do this, let’s do that. Let’s learn personnel.’ We got to know the shooters, know the non-shooters, all that stuff. So that’s where we can help them. Where they can help themselves is just effort and energy play after play, after play. This is different.”

The reality is, there is a reason why there was serious consideration regarding replacing Kerr during the exhibition Games.

He has under-delivered as a coach. No matter how much he tries to blame the players, that fact remains true.

Team USA may still win gold at the 2024 Olympics. But if that happens, it will be in spite of Kerr – not because of him.
